World of Wonder Open House

Celebrating 20 Years of the Farmscape Ecology Program

Join us for a very special open house at the Creekhouse celebrating the Farmscape Ecology Program’s 20th anniversary. This free, drop-in event will feature a variety of “wonder stations” highlighting new ways to experience and appreciate the wonders of the natural world through different senses and perspectives:

  • Sound Wonders – the wonderful world of singing insects
  • Small Wonders – microscopic wonders of plants and insects
  • Hidden Wonders – the wonders inside; natural specimens and old books
  • Weather Wonders – historical weather station, seasonal signs, and more
  • Suitcase of Wonders – animated 3D map of Columbia County, NY

This will also be the last opportunity of the season to visit the Butterfly House, which will be stocked with butterflies from surrounding fields, while the Native Plant Garden will showcase the late summer flowers and plants in different garden habitats. A new butterfly-themed StoryWalk for children, Monarch and Milkweed, will follow the small trail around the Creekhouse.

Finally, to celebrate 20 years of the Farmscape Ecology Program, a looping slideshow will show select photos from the last two decades and light refreshments will be served. Do you have any photos from past FEP events or outings, especially “the early days” that you’d like to contribute to the slideshow? If so, please send them to Claudia.

In case of inclement weather, the rain date is Sunday, August 27th (if there is a decision to postpone, it will be posted on the homepage of our website by that Friday at noon).
