Hawthorne Valley’s Bakery is hiring! Our artisan Hawthorne Valley’s Bakery is hiring! Our artisan bakery produces a full line of organic breads and pastries every day for sale in our onsite store, wholesale customers, and at six weekly farmers’ markets throughout New York City. We mill our grains on site and grow an increasing amount of the grain we use right here on the farm.

Experience is preferred but we will train in the right person. To learn more, and apply: please email Delsia, our Bakery Operations Supervisor, at dhilton@hawthornevalley.org

We look forward to hearing from you!
2020 was a year of adapting for Hawthorne Valley, 2020 was a year of adapting for Hawthorne Valley, especially for those working in The Farm Store. The store employed around 40 folks pre-Covid, and we saw that number rise to 50
in the months since the pandemic. The implementation of our Curbside & Delivery Program, which is here to stay, helped distribute quality food in a safe and accessible way.

We would like to express our gratitude to the store staff and customers who have supported Hawthorne Valley over the last year. Our team came together in an extraordinary way and the generosity from our shoppers has been unmatched. Swipe through to read an excerpt from our Annual Report and to read a little bit of positive news stemming from the creation of our curbside program. Thank you to all who have made our staying open possible by shopping and working safely 💛
Our 2021 CSA Season sign-up is now live!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🌱This year we are going back to a longer (22 week!) season by adding 2 more weeks, extending further into the fall. If by chance crops are ready earlier this spring, we may start one week earlier and then end one week later.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🌱While many members expressed the much missed pros of the 'market-style' model, a majority of folks also requested the pre-packed boxes continue while pandemic precautions remain critical to everyone's safety. We agree. So, knowing the box method will continue, we are now focused on improving our packing processes and are looking into sourcing better packaging products for items like tomatoes, salad mixes, potatoes, etc. Our goals are to (1) reduce our use of plastic and (2) ensure the produce never arrives bruised, wilted, etc.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🌱As a result of continuing to pre-pack shares in boxes, sites can now accommodate the 'Partial Share' option. For those of you looking for a smaller amount of produce each week, this is for you! The 'Partial Share' includes 6 items per week, as opposed to the 'Full Share' which has 10 items.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🌱Our 6 winter share is back on the crop plan. We have set August 16th as the deadline to confirm our ability to offer the winter share. We will notify all members via email.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🌱We have increased our share prices to reflect the additional 2 weeks to the season and overall increased operating costs. This necessary price increase will support us in maintaining and improving product quality, especially during a time when sourcing products and materials has proven more challenging. The price increase translates to paying ~$1.50 more per week.

RUBY 💚💛🧡 Red cabbage is what gives this s RUBY 💚💛🧡 Red cabbage is what gives this savory ferment its vibrant color. (Not to be confused with our Ginger Beets!). This ferment is a staff fave and is packed with red and green cabbage, garlic, and bay leaves. This one is perfect eaten straight out of the jar but if you must- it’s also pretty great as a burger topper, mixed in a grain salad or aside some sunny side eggs 🍳

This passageway allows for air to circulate through the bone. Horns can also help cows regulate their body temperature and improve digestive well-being. Can you discern the general branching patterns of different tree species? Can you see how each individual tree fills the sky in its own way, depending on its growth history and its neighbors? #farmscapeecology

Today is not just a day of remembrance, but a day to learn and act. The ongoing pursuit of justice, both in our country and politics as well as our local food systems and communities is ever-evolving and necessary work. Thank you to MLK for these reminders, and today we remember your humility and sacrifice in doing the good work.
